Because of non-rigid standards, vanity sizing, and local variations, size comparisons are not an exact science. Please check retailers or online sellers return policy before purchasing purely on size criteria alone.

Clothes Size Comparison Categories:

Women's Pants

Unfortunately there are no uniform sizing systems for women.  Due to the variation in pant sizing for women, the best way to attain a great fit is to know your measurements.

Inseam measurement is taken from the crotch seam to the inside bottom of the pant leg.  In store lengths often times are too long.  It is well worth the money to shorten the pants at alterations shop.  The focus of the fit is then in the waist, hips and thighs.

US - Women's apparel sizing is often times designated by Misses, Junior, Plus, Petite and Tall.  This software provides conversion data for Misses sizing.

UK - Designations are similar to the US; however UK sizes are one size bigger.

EU - Conversion can be estimated by adding 28 to the US size (and vise versa)

FR - Conversion can be estimated by adding 30 to the US size (and vise versa)


Blouses

Blouses are generally based on bust size.

It is advisable to measure both feet since one foot maybe slightly larger than the other.  The recommendation is to choose the larger of the two sizes.

Length of the "last" is the template over which the shoe was created by a manufacturer and the easiest for manufacturers to use.  The proper sizing of the shoe is then left to the end customer as the actual foot length is not the actual template for the shoe. 

US - Shoe length in inches; 3 x last length in inches - 22.5 (common scale); 3 x last length in inches - 23 (FIA scale)

UK - Shoe length in inches; 3 x last length in inches - 25

EU - Shoe length in cm (Paris Points); 3/2 x length of foot in cm + 2 cm

FR - Shoe length in cm (Paris Points); 3/2 x length of foot in cm + 2 cm


Men's Jackets

Suit sizes are equal to your chest size.  Chest measurement is taken just under the arms.  Raise arms slightly and measure across the shoulder blades and the fullest part of the chest.

Jacket Length measurement is taken from the center of the back of the neck to the hemline which normally rests just below the curve of the buttocks.

Men's Pants

Men's pants are specified by waist and leg measurements.  Inseam measurement is taken from the crotch seam to the inside bottom of the pant leg.  Waist measurement is taken around the natural waist at the top of the hip bone.


Men's Shirts

Men's shirt sizes are specified by neck size followed by sleeve length.  Neck measurement is taken approximately 1" or 2.5 cm up from where the neck meets the shoulders.  Size up if the neck measurement falls in between sizes.  Sleeve measurement should be taken standing up with the arm out in front even with the shoulder and bent at a right angle.  Place the measuring tape between the shoulder blades and measure out and around the elbow and to the wrist.

T-shirts

T-shirts as well as items such as loungewear, pullovers, and sportswear often times are designated with XS, S, M, L, XL, XXL.  These designations are generally determined by chest circumference. (General guideline is follows: XS 34-36, S 37-39, M 40-42, L 43-45, XL 46-48, XXL 49-51)  This type of designation is normally used in the United States; however, divide the inch size by 2.54 to attain centimeters.

Baby / Toddler Clothes

When no age range is listed; the labeled size is then the maximum size.

The data shown covers ages between 0 - 6 years old.  Baby sizes range from Preemie - 0 - 24 months.  

Toddler sizes range from 24 months - 4 years.


US - Child height in inches.

UK - Child height in cm.

EU - Child height in cm.

FR - Child height in cm.


Kids' Shoes

It is advisable to have children's feet measured by a professional for proper shoe fit.  Allow the child to walk around the shop as much as possible to ensure comfort and fit.  Baby's first shoes should provide support and protection in that the natural feet growth is not restricted.


US - Foot length in inches; 3 x last length in inches - 24

UK - Foot length in barleycorns (thirds of an inch); 3 x last length in inches - 12

EU - Foot length in cm; 3/2 x (length of foot in cm + 2 cm)

FR - Foot length in cm; 3/2 x (length of foot in cm + 2 cm)

Rings

Average adult women where sizes ranging from 6 to 8 or L to Q.  Average adult men where sizes ranging from 9 to 11 or J to W.  Average European sizes range from 38 to 69 millimeters.


US / CA - Numeric scale; each whole step is an inside circumference increase of 2.55 mm. Dash marks following the number indicate half sizes.

UK - Alphabetical scale; each whole step is an inside circumference increase of 1.25 mm.

EU - Numeric scale; size is simply the inside circumference in millimeters.

FR - Numeric scale; size is the inside circumference in millimeters; half and quarter steps also used.


Bras

The proper bra size is determined by taking underbust and overbust measurements.  Underbust is the ribcage measurement taken just below the bust.  To determine bra size, take the underbust measurement and add 5.  If the number is odd round up to the next even number.  Overbust is the cup size measurement taken at the fullest part of the bust.  To determine cup size, take the overbust measurement and subtract the bra size number.  Use the following guideline to determine cup size: 0-1/2 = AA, 1/2-1 = A, 1-2 1/2 = B, 2 1/2-3 1/2 = C, 3 1/2-4 1/2 = D, 4 1/2-6 = DD (E), 6-7 = DDD (F), 7-8 = G, etc. 


Cup size designation is used in all Western countries.  A, B, C, D, etc.


Changes such as pregnancy, weight loss or gain, and age can affect bra size.  Measurements should be taken periodically to ensure the proper bra fit and comfort.
